If you missed the free community open house when Music Hall reopened in October, you’ll have another chance during ArtsWave’s upcoming campaign. Music Hall will be open to all on March 24. It’s just one of 12 Saturdays of free fun spanning the entire ArtsWave campaign.
The goal for this year’s 2018 “Make Waves” campaign will be announced early on Thursday.
ArtsWave, the nation’s oldest and largest community arts fund, previously offered an Arts Sampler Weekend of live performances, art and more.
The new concept, ArtsWave Days, will feature events at different venues with different themes on each Saturday between February 3 and April 21. In all you’ll find more than 100 free community performances throughout the campaign.
It all launches with a Play Day, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. this Saturday, Feb. 3. You can participate in performances, classes, hands-on art-making and more at the new home of The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati, Cincinnati Shakespeare Company in Over-the-Rhine, The Carnegie in Covington and the Campbell County Libraries.
Other ArtsWave events are aimed at adults, like Date Night in OTR (Feb. 17) with wine-tasting in three OTR venues, which you can pair with ticketed shows, and the Beer Choir Games at Urban Artifact in Northside, with lots of singing and $1 beers. (Feb. 24) Oh, and don’t forget to download the Beer Choir Hymnal before you go.
Two of my favorites are in March:
Music Hall Open House, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 24: Tour the newly renovated Music Hall, and also take in some of the dozens of performances that will appear throughout the day from Music Hall’s five resident organizations – the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, Cincinnati Ballet, Cincinnati Orchestra, and May Festival – and additional community arts partners.
There’s more: You are invited to sing with the May Festival Chorus at 10 a.m., or bring your horn or violin and join the Poptet Jam Session, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. conducted by the Pops maestro himself, John Morris Russell.
Cincinnati Reds Kid’s Opening Day, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 31: Join ArtsWave and the Cincinnati Reds at The Banks outside of Great American Ballpark (on Freedom Way) for arts and Opening Day activities for the entire family. Look for the ArtsWave tent with artists from Rainbow Faces painting faces, and more.
The complete schedule is at ArtsWave.org/Days.
A new rewards program: A free ArtsWave Rewards program will offer rewards that can be accumulated for chances to win weekly prizes throughout the 2018 Community Campaign. The grand prize for the 2018 Community Campaign is a Cincy Arts Staycation: two tickets to Hamilton, a room at the 21C Museum Hotel, dinner at Boca, breakfast at Metropole, and a $500 shopping spree at Macy’s, including personal shopper assistance.
To join ArtsWave Rewards, download the ArtsWave Guide, the region’s largest arts calendar and arts finder, via its app in the iPhone App Store and Android Google Play.
